Are You Thinking of Starting a Blog?

If you are looking for some great ways to make some extra money while having some fun on your computer, then you might well look into the art of blogging as a possibility for this. Running and writing a blog can indeed be hugely satisfying, and it is one of the most common pastimes that people enjoy on the internet these days.

Of course, if you want to be a blogger, and especially if you want to make a great success of it, you need to make sure that you are prepared for that in the best way possible.

In this article, we are going to look at some of the things you might want to look into to make sure that you are going to be truly ready to be a blogger.

Get Your Affairs In Order

Believe it or not, it can take a little money to get your blog set up, especially if you are hoping to allow it to actually turn a profit in the future as well. Don’t go the free route. Buy your own domain name and get self-hosted ASAP.

Although it shouldn’t be too expensive, you will still want to make sure that you are actually going to be in the best possible position to begin with, so that you know you are going to be ready for it as best as possible. This means, primarily, getting your affairs in order, which might be harder for some than it is for others.

Generally you should make sure that you are going to be in a strong enough financial position not to have to worry, which could mean you need to pay off credit card debt or sort out your overdraft – or just that you need to make sure you are getting some secure income in on the side. Do that, and you will be truly ready to start your blog.

Know Your Niche

It’s hard to make your blog a success if you don’t have anything in the way of a niche, and that is something that you need to think about long before you actually start setting the blog up or writing. This needs to be something that you genuinely know alot about, ideally are qualified in in some manner, and which you can write about in a way which is passionate and engaging. You also need to be able to formulate many opinions or beliefs about the subject at hand, so that you are not ever going to run out of things to write about. Being able to constantly update your blog is hugely important, so make use that you are doing this.

You may notice a wide array of topics here. Craig Smith is a Professional Musician and tends to write about things related to Music. He also loves the tech side of Blogging (not my strongpoint). I on the other hand, am completely tech-ignorant. It serves as a nice balance here. Having a wide niche swath can be fun, although most of the professional bloggers out there tend to agree it is a harder path. It also can make it difficult to market your blog.

Marketing

Even before you start your blog, you will want to start spreading the word about it. The more you do that at first, the more of a hype you will build around it, and that will mean that you can expect many more people to be interested in it once you get the ball rolling. Bear that in mind if you want to make sure your new blog is actually going to be a huge success.

How To Do It?

One thing we’ve found is that Facebook Groups can be great for marketing new blogs. It gets other bloggers engaged in your content and can provide some valuable shares on social media platforms such as Pinterest or Twitter as well.

Our Favorite Facebook Groups:

Pinterest

Currently Pinterest accounts for about 67% of our traffic here. Sharing and scheduling on Pinterest is an invaluable tool for a new blogger. Gone are the days of relying on cold Google searches for website traffic .

Did You Know?

Pinterest is the #3 Search Engine on the Internet?….. and #1 with Female internet users.

Email Marketing

Setting up an email list from day #1 is vital for the success of your blog. In our first month we are getting about 5-6 signups per day! Not bad eh? There are so many free options for mailing lists such as MailChimp or MailerLite, this one should really be a no-brainer.

I highly recommend Convertkit. If you’re serious about getting your content delivered with tons of options for filtering, lists etc.. there is just no substitute.
